I got my basic open water and advanced open water (with deep, night, navigation, search and retrieve, and wreck-diving) in 1998. This served as a temporary distraction while I was finishing up my thesis. I also went through an NAS level I underwater archaeology certification, working on the Confederation 2 wreck in Hamilton. Later on, for the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, I drafted the criteria for evaluating marine archaeological potential.
